Problems caused by improper lifting

 

When it comes to preventing injury, one of the best things you can do is take good care when you lift objects. The wrong technique can lead to devastating effects on your body and often long term injuries. I have treated many people, who have caused major problems in their bodies by not lifting things safely. This happens with lifting heavier objects, but surprisingly even with lifting lighter objects on a regular basis. 

Something you should really avoid when lifting is performing a twisting motion, while holding the object in front of you. Instead of twisting your upper body, you should pivot and move your feet.

With some careers it is difficult to avoid lifting. For example with Lobster Fishing. The nature of the job demands fairly heavy lifting on a regular basis. But you can make sure you use proper technique and prevent injury.
